The purpose of the Naubesatuck Watershed Council is to protect and enhance the beauty, biotic diversity, ecological interactions, and structures and processes of the three river systems —- the Fenton, Mount Hope and Natchaug —- that converge in Naubesatuck Lake (also well known as Mansfield Hollow). These rivers provide the raw drinking water for the city of Willimantic and portions of Mansfield. Groundwater associated with these rivers supplies wells in the region, including at the University of Connecticut. We are dedicated to promoting stewardship of, and sustainable development within, the 162 square mile watershed in the communities that share these rivers.

Natchaug Conservation Action Planning (CAP)

A conservation planning effort is now underway for the Natchaug Basin, which is comprised primarily of the Naubesatuck Watershed. The Natchaug Basin also includes the land that drains to the Natchaug River in Windham/Willimantic south of the Willimantic Water Works Reservoir.

For more details on the CAP, please see the Outreach Page on this website.

Patagonia Funds NWC

The Patagonia Store in Westport, CT, an outdoor clothing and gear retailer, has provided a $1500 grant to NWC to fund conservation planning in our watershed. This project is underway in conjunction with The Nature Conservancy, Green Valley Institute, and WINCOG, among others. Planning workshops will be held with the major stakeholders in the watershed to identify shared conservation goals and barriers, and create an action plan for implementation of priority conservation goals.
